Personality

Detailed Personality

Alicia has a love of life that is nearly impossible to quell. Above all, that is what motivates her, and what keeps her grounded, so that her striving to be the best that she can be doesn't isolate her from the world around her and the life she has yet to explore fully. She enjoys the good things, and for all that she is she tries to find the good in any situation. Sometimes that is difficult, and like everybody else, even Alicia has bad days. Since she feels deeply, on days like that, she has a hard time finding the upside to anything, at least on her own. More often than not, simply a small nudge from somebody else, can be enough to change her mood back to the positive again.

Being the youngest of three, she is very much the little sister. She's used to be the 'littlest', both age- and height wise, and as such secretly enjoys being protected, despite a fierce independent streak, which means that if the protection gets too much, she'll back away or object. Loudly... and at great length. As emotional as she can be, when dealing with Healing, she is no-nonsense and would rather risk a hex than be deterred from Healing if it is needed. She has a low tolerance for idiocy, and won't hesitate on calling a friend or ally on it.

Although Alicia is capable of thinking practically, she does have a bit of the average Gryffindor's black/white image of the world. There are good people, there are bad people, and she doesn't really know what to do with the people in between. That usually results in those grey-shade people being perceived as good, until they do something bad, at which point it will take a lot of work for them to end up on the good side again.
First Impression: At first glimpse, Alicia is the epitome of the petite blonde. At 5'2'' and 100 lbs, she is at second glimpse as well, probably at third and fourth too, but underneath that long blonde hair and behind those dark brown eyes, there's a girl that somewhat likes the attention it gives her, but still demands that people take her seriously.
Likes: Sweets and desserts, Quidditch, flying, music, dancing, genuine smiles and despite her objections she does find a guilty pleasure in reading trashy romance novels.
Dislikes: Snakes, fake smiles, strawberries, mushrooms, too quiet and cold.
Boggart: A snake
Mirror of Erised: Herself surrounded by her happy family

Detailed History:

Alicia was born in Bath to Darren and Helena Spinnet. In the effort of keeping his family safe, Darren had retreated from the Wizarding World some 2 years earlier, before the birth of twin sons Sam and Nigel. There was a war going on, and as a Muggleborn Wizard, Darren was a sought after target by the Death Eaters. He earned his way as a cab driver, while Helena took to teaching music out of their home. Alicia doesn't remember much, if anything, from those years, only what she had been told whenever they've been looking at the pictures in the family album.

Three and a half years later, Voldemort was defeated, and suddenly things began to change in the Spinnet home. Darren, no longer a wanted man, began using magic again, though still only within the confines of their home, and he and Nigel began openly talking about Quidditch. Or maybe they had always done so, but Alicia claims that she clearly remembers the first time she heard the word, as that was the day her dad brought home toybrooms for all three of his children. A couple of hours later, Sam's toybroom had been brought back to the shop, and he was instead fawning over his very own ukulele, while Nigel was fighting a losing battle in trying to keep his sister away from his broom. In the end, Alicia tossed a doll at her brother, a doll that would have hit him squarely in the face had he not used the toybroom to knock it off course: A future Chaser and Beater were born.

The following September, Helena enrolled the now four year old Alicia at East Twerton Infant, just like her sons had been. All three of her children had already shown signs of magic, and she knew that come time they would be going off to Scotland to attend the same school Darren had left for when he was eleven. Even so, her children were part of a non-magic family, and as such she found it important that they knew about that world too, rather than become isolated in the Wizarding World, of which she had only heard from her husband.

The three years of infant school went relatively smooth, safe for a few incidents where young Alicia failed to keep quiet about the magic. One such time, was when the teacher had asked the children to tell about what their parents did for a living. Alicia's talk of brooms and gloves and other protective equipment made the teacher think the little girl was talking about a janitor. Obviously, the well-dressed and well-off business man, she saw taking his daughter to school every morning, couldn't be working such a menial job as that of a janitor's, and she made Alicia aware of that. Despite her efforts of trying to explain that the brooms flew, Alicia only managed to get herself told off by the teacher for spreading untrue nonsense about her family.

In July of 1989, a few weeks after she had finished four years at King Edward's Junior School, Alicia received her letter from Hogwarts. She had been longing for that letter ever since the Owl dropped off the letters to her brothers two years ago. Even though there were always one or two of her mum's pupils in the house, it had just seemed empty without Nigel Beating balls around the yard and Sam making all of them plead Darren for a Silencing Charm on his room as he took turns on the instruments, learning how to play them one by one.

Helena had tried to keep Alicia busy, signing her up for dance classes and teaching her the basics on guitar and piano, so she at least would have some sense of rhythm, rather than the stiff moves usually associated with athletes attempting music. Alicia loved the dancing, but she wanted more. She wanted to fly, she wanted to play, and she wanted her own wand, just like dad, Sam and Nigel had.

Despite the fact that once she had gotten on the Hogwarts Express her brothers had vanished off to be with their housemates, the trip wasn't all that bad. Alicia met some of the other new students, and by the time they reached Hogsmeade, she thought she might have found a few friends. During the sorting ceremony, Alicia had tried to spot Nigel and Sam in the crowd of heads, but there were simply too many, even though she only looked at the tables under the banners with the eagle and the badger. She was sure she was going to end up in Hufflepuff, just like her dad and Sam had, but when Angelina – whom she had met on the train – went to sit by the table under the red banner with the lion, she wanted to go sit there as well. At least then she knew one other new student.

The Sorting Hat did place her in Gryffindor, though not after it had chuckled at her inquiry about where the dragon they were going to fight while reciting Transfiguration incantations were. After all, that's what one of the redheaded twins had claimed that their brothers had told them; anyone who couldn't do that, wouldn't be able to get into school. As it was, Alicia did get into school, even without fighting a dragon – for which she was grateful – though years later she probably could have recited those Transfiguration incantations in her sleep.

The Welcome Feast was grand and loads of fun, but as it came time for bed, it began to dawn on Alicia exactly how far from home she was. Where she had been used to having her own room, she was now sharing a dorm with four other girls – which wasn't really all that bad – but even so, it was still too quiet. There were no music playing, and as if that wasn't enough, the electrical toothbrush she had brought from home – against the advice of her dad – didn't work in the castle that was bursting with magic. She wanted to see Sam, or even Nigel, and him fix her toothbrush for her, but as she got outside the Gryffindor common room, she had no idea where the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws were living. Fully determined to go pack up her things and return to Bath with the next train out of Hogsmeade, Alicia went back inside, where she curled up in bed, fully intent on seeking out Professor McGonagal in the morning to inform her that she wasn't fit for Hogwarts. The next day, however, her first class were Charms with Professor Flitwick, and the tiny teacher managed to open Alicia's eyes to the wonders of Charms and magic.

Hogwarts didn't turn out to be all that bad, after all. It didn't take long before Alicia had made friends, some of them even close, and when she started her second year, it was time to try out for the Quidditch team. As luck would have it, in the morning of the try-outs, Alicia missed a step on one of the stairs, and ended up in the Hospital Wing with a broken wrist and Madam Pomfrey refusing to let her go down to the Pitch. Instead, Alicia was fortunate enough to be given a second chance, but since the spots on the main team were already taken, she instead got a place as a reserve. Not exactly what she had gone for, but it would have to do... for now.

Her chance came in her third year, when all of three players from the team had finished school. Finally Alicia got to join Angelina in the main Chaser line, a position she held until she too finished Hogwarts. Along with Alicia, Katie Bell and the Harry Potter she had heard tales about since she was three joined the team, a team that would grow to become her best and closest friends.

With Harry's arrival at the school, more and more occurrences began pointing towards darker times. What really convinced Alicia, was when Harry returned with Cedric's dead body after the third task during the TriWizard tournament.

Her seventh and final year at Hogwarts was what truly made Alicia what she is today. All of her life she had dreamed of becoming a professional Quidditch player. Her brother, Nigel, had signed contract with Pride of Portree two years earlier, and he kept telling her that she had a shot at a position there, if she just finished school and kept practicing. With the appearance of Umbrigde at Hogwarts and the subsequent formation of Dumbledore's Army, Alicia began realising that she couldn't defend following the dream of becoming a professional athlete, when the foreboding sense of approaching war was filling the world around her. The final push came when, during one of the sessions with the DA, Terry Boot was disarmed and his wand hit Alicia hard in the face, breaking her nose. As she was sitting in the Hospital Wing, she realised that she already knew the spells Madam Pomfrey was using (she had, after all, spent quite some time in the Hospital wing, having broken bones, sprains, and various other injuries treated), and if she could imagine spending her adult life working as a Healer as a satisfying future, playing Quidditch professionally wasn't what she was going to do.

Alicia finished Hogwarts, with enough N.E.W.T.s to begin training as a Healer in the late summer of 1996.

Training at St. Mungo's quickly became the highlight in Alicia's life, not unlike what Quidditch had been for her in school. Alicia found her place at the ward for Artefact Accidents, preferring to work with broken bones and torn tissue over poisonings or spell damage. She looked up to and admired the work of the Senior Healer (Martin Jameson) who was mentoring her, writing off his small comments about blood purity as nothing more preparing her for potentially working with patients of that conviction.

When the Ministry fell in 1997, Alicia's life was turned upside down. Her father and brother, Nigel, had been passing through the Atrium when Death Eaters had started pouring through all possible entrances, and they had been amongst the first killed in the attack. From the devastation of the loss, grew her determination to not let it break her. With the help of Gabriel Hayden and his mother she and her mother safely out of the country, simply to keep her safe, should the current administration find any possible loophole to persecute her. Sam went along, but Alicia was determined to stay and finish her training.

At that time, Alicia had just started her second year as a trainee. Over the summer she had openly defended Healer Jameson to some of her colleagues, who had gossiped about his supposed connection. As she saw him, he couldn't possibly be a Death Eater, or even connected to them, because he was treating any patient that passed by him, even Muggleborns.

Alicia got through the final Battle relatively unharmed. She had been at the Hospital when the DA coin – hanging as a pendant in her necklace – had alerted her to the upcoming attack, and she hadn't hesitated in going. Like her friends, she had fought hard before she had gone to the Great Hall to begin treating the injured, a task that kept her busy around the clock pretty much for the entirety of the following weeks. Aside from a few gashes in her arm, the only true harm she had suffered was when she had seen the face of Healer Jameson on one of the deceased Death Eaters, the very same man she had stood up for barely a year ago, claiming loudly that he couldn't possibly be what the others had thought of him.

Her mother and Sam returned from France a week later.

Alicia finished her time as a trainee, under the watchful eye of her new mentor, Healer Hammond, a fairly open-minded wizard who was fascinated with her Muggle medical history. Finishing her time as a trainee, however, didn't mean that she was free of supervision. As a Junior Healer, she was still assigned to a Senior Healer, but she no longer had to be watched during procedures, simply get approval before taking on a case.

Privately, Alicia is attempting to balance work at the hospital with a social life. It doesn’t always work out, and as such it has resulted in her never really getting past the stage of dating anybody. She’s never really minded that all that much, since she has her friends, some of which she even sees as pseudo-siblings, and that is fine with her. For now.
